My Name is Ahlam

Directed by: Rima Essa
80 Minutes, 2010

While fighting for her daughter’s right to receive adequate treatment for her leukemia, Aisha – a Palestinian woman living in the West Bank, undergoes a process of empowerment. Suddenly, this battered woman, is no longer afraid to stand up to her husband, to her occupiers, to the authorities and to anyone who is in the way of her daughter’s path to health. Since Hamas took power in Palestine, many of the funds provided by Europe have been cut off. No one realizes that cutting the funds doesn’t harm the authorities as much as the citizens, and most of all this jeopardizes the health care system and the lives of children.
