FOUR HUNDRED MILES TO FREEDOM is the story of co-director Avishai Mekonenâ’s search to remember and reconcile what happened to him at age 10 in 1984, when he was kidnapped by slave traffickers in Sudan. Throughout his life-long journey from Ethiopia to Sudan, Israel, and finally America, his fundamental identity is challenged: What does it mean when others insist that you can’t be who you know you are? His search for answers leads him to other African, Asian and Latino Jews, and together they discover what it takes to heal a broken past and to overcome the invisibility and the questioning of one’s identity.

Poland, the mid 1960s. A struggling family in an impoverished neighborhood. The mother, separated from her Polish husband, spends most of her time at work in order to provide the basic needs for her twelve and fifteen-year-old sons. The boys have joined a gang with strong neo-Nazi orientations. One day, the gang enters a Jewish neighborhood, vandalizing the premises and stabbing some youngsters, until they are arrested by the police. Due to this incident, their mother decides to tell them the truth – she is a Jew who survived the Holocaust and raised them in the Catholic faith. She informs them that they are going to immigrate to Australia, while in truth, they are moving to Israel.

The film explores the struggles for self-identity as immigrants, while trying to build a new life in a foreign land.

Europe’s Muslims are in the midst of a social, political and religious storm. The encounter between cultures is fraught with heavy historical baggage and religious and nationalist fervor. This film follows the riots of 2005 and explors how Muslim separatism leads to religious extremism and concurrently to the radical right’s increased power.

Lullaby, a 50 min documentary by Natalie Haziza, tells the story of her two mothers, one of them Jewish South-African and the other her African nursemaid.
Rebecca worked for 10 years as Natalie`s nanny while leaving her 4 children in the village with their grandmother.
Elaine, Natalie`s biological mother, pursued a career, but could only do so only because Rebecca could care for her children while she was away.
Natalie, now a woman in her twenties living in Israel, returns to her homeland in South Africa to accompany them both on their journeys to discover the meaning of motherhood.
Sensitively and personally told, a contemporary look at motherhood, the figure of the Jewish Mother and the after-effects of Apartheid.
