When aspiring filmmaker David (Brandon Polansky) is mandated by a judge to attend a social program at the Jewish Community Center, he is sure of one thing: he doesn’t belong there. But when he’s assigned to visit the Brooklyn Bridge with the vivacious Sarah (Samantha Elisofon), sparks fly and his convictions are tested. Their budding relationship must weather Sarah’s romantic past, David’s judgmental mother (Jessica Walter), and their own pre-conceptions of what love is supposed to look like. Under the guise of an off-kilter New York romantic comedy, Keep the Change does something quite radical in casting actors with autism to play characters with autism, offering a refreshingly honest portrait of a community seldom depicted on the big screen. Rarely has a romcom felt so deep and poignant. Thoroughly charming and quite funny, the film’s warmth and candor brings growth and transformation to the characters, and ultimately, to us.

Asia tells the story of a single mom, Asia, whose relationship with her daughter, Vika, is more of a sister relationship rather than mother-daughter. Asia’s expectations of honesty and openness begin to negatively impact her relationship with Vika, who strives for privacy and independence. When Vika’s health begins to decline, this only increases her desire for exploration, and Asia finds herself at a crossroads between her own parenting style and respecting her daughter’s point of view. It is a story of navigating relationships and motherhood.

Hagit, a young woman with an intellectual disability, works in a toilet-paper factory. She lives with her mother Sarah, a divorcée who gave up her life for her daughter. Hagit strives for independence and Sarah is torn between her desire to protect her, and her own will to live. When a relationship develops between her and the son of the factory owner, Hagit hides it from her mother. The announcement of the closing of the factory shakes Hagit and Sarah’s life and jeopardizes Hagit’s love story.

Tuesdays at Five

Every Tuesday at five, Masha, Bentzie, Sivan, David, and Eleanor meet with the rest of the Wings theatre group to work and rehearse the play “Silver Spoon.” Following the process of working on the play the movie enables to get a glimpse into the group members’ relationships, the love affairs, the jealousies, and their doubts as actors, who, in addition to their qualities, are also mentally-challenged. Soon enough the boundaries between the play and reality become blurry, especially when real life becomes heavily influenced by the play.

The Zakutas are a poor, ultra-orthodox family from the slums of Bnei Brak. Amram, a Torah scholar, earns a living writing mezuzot, while his wife cares for their autistic son. One afternoon, their son enters a neighbor’s apartment and a miracle occurs. A huge crowd gathers around the home of the Zakuta family, changing their lives forever.

Voices from the Heartland: Three Fingers

Retired Duvik saws off three of his fingers in his amateur woodworking shop. Ofra, his faithful wife, rushes him to the hospital, but in the emergency room realizes that she left the bag containing the amputated fingers in the car. When she goes to the parking lot to fetch the fingers, she’s surprised to see her car driving away. She jumps into a waiting taxi and begins a chase after the fingers with the foul-mouthed driver. An entertaining road movie about couples, marriage and love.
