Burden addresses the individual/collective trauma. The film’s materials are composed of interview sequences and filmed places, events, and ceremonies. After years abroad, moving back to my hometown of Haifa enabled me to look at familiar things as secretive, while remaining both familiar and foreign to me. Out of the conviction that a testimony cannot be fully transmitted, I intend to reach its inexplicable presence, and to approach the shadow of a catastrophic event from the past that is engraved in the mind, and therefore still exists. I try to cross the conventional border stretched between the individual and the collective, seeking representation of notions and impressions connected with what the individual tells, and with what the collective, expresses through the individual.
